Meet the 2008 Jurors
Diane Baty
Diane has a love of nostalgia…music, films, art. As a long time aficionado of movies in all genre she is looking forward to focusing on independent films of short duration. This interest is driven by her personality…always entertaining, and enjoying the stories, creativity and lives depicted in films. Her knack for seeing beyond the obvious makes her a natural for evaluating films pushing the limits. Diane is active in the Gilroy community, particularly with involvement in the schools attended by her three children. Diane’s contributions have been at the school level as well as the district level where she has served on a number of task forces with administrators and other parents. As a 21 year resident of Gilroy, Diane and her husband value their family, the community life they experience, and the rewarding careers each of them enjoy. Diane is a Realtor® with Coldwell Banker.
Andrew Juncker
Andrew has been a filmmaker since he was a child. He is a Oakland resident and an alumnus of Gavilan College. He attended the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington where he received a B.A. emphasizing in film. He currently works at Gavilan College as the television studio technician and has worked on various film and video productions in the bay area. His tastes in film vary widely from big-budget Hollywood box office blasts to obscure avant-guarde enigmas. His short film "Micheal’s Storm" won the Juror’s Choice Award for Best Drama at the Poppy Jasper last year. This is his first year serving as a Juror.
George N. Panos
It is easy to say his interest in films began early. George recalls his dad breaking away from his busy restaurant business and taking his boys to see “Pork Chop Hill,” Westerns and kids’ movies like “Nikki, Wild Dog of the North.” Comedies, musicals and foreign films all fit into his mix – having watched films in Greek as a child during Greek Independence Day celebrations. While attending West Virginia University, where he earned a B.S. degree in Broadcast Journalism, George took a film class, which is why he has to be at a movie well before it starts to get the best seat – in line with the projector. He and his wife enjoy watching (oldies) the Thin Man series with William Powell and Myrna Loy on PBS. Before becoming an electronics sales representative in Silicon Valley, George had stints as a PR/Ad Agency copywriter and interned/part-time for on-air and production work at a PBS-affiliate station. Actively involved in promoting community and civic organizations, his contributions include chair of the Mt. Madonna YMCA Board of Managers, board member of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee, and president of the Morgan Hill Unified School Board of Trustees. He is a former contributing columnist to the Morgan Hill Times and appeared as a host on Morgan Hill’s local cable television network.
Kate Lutz
Kate has been in the Morgan Hill community since 2001, bringing her passion about life, art, nature and stories whether in movies, plays or poetry or improv. Retired from nursing, she now sings with the Aromas Threshold Choir for the past three years, and she is an active partner in the family real estate business with her husband. Kate is an articulate and discerning film lover and enjoys discussing the subtle and not so subtle nuances of a well-made film. Several family members currently work in sound and lighting in L.A. She and her husband often create stories together, and they plan to segue out of real estate and into short films when they retire next year.
