The Poppy Jasper Film Festival kicked off on Friday, November 9th with the Juror's Choice screening. Following the screening a good time was had by all at wonderful party attended by filmmakers, the Women in Film panel members , film go-ers and guests including the mayor.

Saturday was followed various screenings, a marvelous Women In Film panel led by Fran Lozano, Dean of Liberal Arts and Science, Gavilan College and included such illustrious guests as:

  • Laurie Agard -Writer, Director, Producer
  • Susan Cartsonis - Producer
  • Anne Goursand - Editor, Director
  • Fiona Gubelmann - Actress
  • Marjo Silva - Owner, elementFX a full visual effects studio

A lively discussion took place on the rewards and challenges of being female in the male dominated profession of film reaching a conclusion by the panelists that being professional, producing good quality results and remaining true to yourself will ultimately bring work and recognition your way as a professional in the field.

Chris Squires, Keynote Speaker for Saturday evening presented anecdotes surrounding his passion for film beginning as a child & continuing through his early years of experience as camera assistant through becoming a camera operator, Steadicam operator. The Q&A portion of the program was active with much interaction between the audience and Chris asking about his different experiences with equipment and lighting.

The Poppy Jasper Film Festival celebrated another successful year by showcasing the best filmmakers had to offer at the Awards Ceremony held on Sunday November 11, 2007.
